Om Unit & Sam Binga 'TransAtlantic'

如果是有在留意Juke/Footwork這樣節奏的音樂，就絕不可能錯過將此節奏融入了早期Jungle/Breakbeat等英國氣息而起的UK Style Footwork/Jungle，當中翹楚倫敦製作Om Unit（Philip D Kick/Jim Coles）就是其重要大臣，與之同一陣線的Fracture, Machinedrum, Addsion Groove以及Sam Binga更是在2013 & 2014年的努力下，將已經好幾年了無新意的UK Drum & Bass帶往了新的紀元。
回到2013年布里斯托舞曲製作Sam Simpson改變之前固有的House/Breaks/Dubstep/UK Funky等風格，將自己重新改名為Sam Binga新路線以復辟Drum & Bass/Jungle為己任，並將所受到Juke/Footwork的影響置入其中，當然這樣的改變以他的資歷鐵定是會引來其他人的注目，所以已經在英國努力推廣Juke/Footwork多年的幾位先鋒如Addison Groove（Headhunter）與Om Unit（Philip D Kick）便前來與他交流，首先就是推出與Om Unit合作並交由dBridge廠牌Exit發行的Small Victories EP，想要的Juke/Footwork影響是可以從Gamma中明顯聽見，但在這走的是dBridge所致力於將原來Drum & Bass節拍減半的Half-Step風格所以比例老實說沒有下很重，以及隨後兩人另一合作曲Triffidz（收錄在Exit廠牌合輯Mosaic Vol. 2之中）也是。
兩年過後時間來到2015年，Om Unit與Sam Binga兩人再度合作交出一張4曲12" Transatlantic' EP，這一次不再減半所以Footwork Style的Jungle/Drum & Bass威力立現，3月2號白廠獨立發行。

DJ Rashad所掀起的Juke音樂，真的， 再一次改變我聽音樂的方向，很不幸的他因藥物問題而於4/26離開人世，蠻難過的，因為Juke音樂少了你將不會一樣。
也因為DJ Rashad而重新喜歡上這波相同受到Juke/Footwork影響的英國Drum N Bass製作如Fracture, Sam Binga, Om Unit, Stray, Alix Perez, Rockwell.....，其中的Stray馬上作了首歌獻給DJ Rashad以表達對Rashad的思念。

曾在亞特蘭大低音舞曲製作Distal的Embassy廠牌以及英國布萊頓廠牌Well Rounded支線Well Rounded Individuals發表作品的休斯頓Footwork/Juke製作Wheez-ie，稍早前公佈關於他的個人廠牌Southern Belle Recordings成立以及廠牌的首張發行將會是芝加哥Footwork/Juke先鋒製作DJ Rashad的四曲EP We On 1，發行時間訂於本月底（4/28）先發表Vinyl版本（數位版本則會晚於5月13號上線）。

紐約Soul/R&B女唱作人Kelis來到Ninja Tune廠牌將於這個月中發表新專輯Food，在先行露出的幾首單曲裡邀來各路舞曲/電子製作Mount Kimbie, Will Saul aka Close, Ben Pearce, Breach等包辦暖身後，身為同廠同志的Footwork/Juke製作Machinedrum想當然爾也不能不出手。

Whilst maintaining it's fundamental elements, the essence of the of the 160-170 BPM music bracket or DnB spectrum has been fluctuating wildly in recent times. It's ongoing evolution is as relevant, infectious and omnipotent as ever. Drawing in the influences of Chicago's Footwork, Juke and Ghetto House sounds, the big guns at Exit Records, Critical, Metalheadz et al., continue to be the pioneering forces shaping these sounds. Millie & Andrea are Miles Whittaker and Andy Stott, fellow labelmates at Modern Love who collaborated on an occasional series of 12” releases between 2008 and 2010. It’s been four years since we last heard from them but they now return with “Drop The Vowels”, their debut album. Produced fast and loose through late 2013 / early 2014, it’s an album that recalls the strict and stripped funk of Anthony Shakir as much as it does Leila’s incredible debut ‘Like Weather’, eschewing the dark aesthetic both producers are best known for in favour of something much more visceral. It’s an album borne from a love of both pop and club music, made to evoke an adrenalised, hedonistic, as well as an emotional response.
Opener GIF RIFF brings to life a Gamelan edit stripped bare before the over-compressed ‘Stay Ugly’ breaks out with a tumbling, broken arrangement situated somewhere between Richard D James and Jai Paul. “Temper Tantrum” and “Spectral Source” follow, versions of tracks originally released on the second and third Daphne EP’s respectively, the former a rugged rave anthem tempered by blue strings, the latter a proper dancefloor destroyer recalling Shake’s mighty ‘Madmen’. ‘Corrosive’ flits between a fillibrating, arpeggiated steppers rhythm and a brutal jungle breakdown, while ‘Drop The Vowels’ further explores and strips bare bass & drums before the slow but jacking warehouse killer “Back Down” provides pure percussive abandon. Quay ends the set with something quieter, a sublime coda made entirely from field recordings. [via Modern Love]

Juke Mix by Addison Groove
布里斯托Dubstep製作Headhunter會在09年開啟另一化名Addison Groove的來由眾所皆知是因為Chicago Juke，當時（2010年）從Juke取經而來的首張大作Footcrab/Dumbsh*t（由DMZ創始大佬Loefah開啟的新廠牌Swamp 81發行）也造就UK Bass這樣的音樂名詞出現。Presents James Grieve是以Addison Groove這名字所發行的第二張專輯（距離同樣由50 Weapons發行的首張專輯Transistor Rhythm時間剛好兩年），這次交出的作品較上一張來得更加完整的Juke/Footwork風味，不過現下英國玩法則是多與90'初期的Jungle/Breakbeat做結合所以較多曲子的速度來到84BPM。如果有興趣Footwork/Juke這樣有別於美式而多些英倫Jungle的風格，不彷找找Om Unit/Fracture/Stray以及這次在專輯中合作兩首的Sam Binga（事實上那兩首Rzor/11th來自於去年中兩人合作也同樣交由50 Weapons發行的BS3 EP內，Raor在專輯的版本則是多了MC部分）這些Producers近期的作品。
扯了一些，但主要還是下方Addison Groove錄製給紐約背包品牌Lexdray的最新Mixtape，收錄有他新專輯內幾首單曲結合了Teklife陣容裡的DJ Rashad和DJ Earl，法國Footwork/Jungle要角Moresounds，挪威奧斯陸的Slick Shoota以及英國同鄉的DJ Die和Om Unit.....的Juke Mix。

XLR8R剛推出了新的podcast這次執掌的是來自Mark Pritchard和Steve Spacek兩人的Africa Hitech，這次他倆帶來的是Juke/Footwork這源起於芝加哥浩室分支類型的Mixset，正常原始的Juke/Footwork它的BPM在150-160間，因為數度之快一般人大約跳個一個半小時左右就厭倦了，在今年許多Bass Music製作裡其實都有Juke/Footwork的成份在內，但已經不局限於在那BPM 150-160，相信Juke/Footwork在明年更會是白熱化。
